Is the machine on a different subnet? See KB 1013253.

apparenlty, the workstation is a 32 bit machine and will not run our 64 bit version.  Is a 32 bit workstation compatible?  is there a 32 bit version of showhwfp.exe.

error message:

The version of this file is not compatible with lthe version of Windows you're running.  Check the computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

You can download an x86 version of showhwfp.exe from KB 1012618.

ran file and same issue.  I can ping the boxes.  What ports would be needed?

I suspect there is a firewall in my way.

You need to run showhwfp.exe on the actual workstation you are trying to get the host id for. Then just copy that and manually enter it into the License Manager Administration Console.

If you are still getting an "Access denied" error when running the tool directly on the computer, then the Windows user you are logged into the PC with may not have enough rights needed to use that tool. In that case, you can go into the command prompt and run "ipconfig /all" to get the host id.

I can enter the Host ID into the Register Named Device window in the Host Id field.

I get: there was an unknown error. (2001).  Where do I enter the number

Can you detail the exact process you're performing? When you are registering a new named device, enter in a computer name and then manually type in the Host ID. At this point, do not click the "Look Up" button. Rather, just select the license type you want to assign to the device and then click "OK."

Do you get an error when just doing that?

I was able to add the account, I was not entering the Host Name. I will check access from the workstation tomorrow.
