Question

hosting web

asked on November 13, 2014

Is there any problem hosting LF Avante and WebLink for different customers--are there restrictions from Laserfiche?

Can anyone point me to some info on how many servers are recommended (all will be VM at a data center). I know there will be a WebLink, SQL, LF, Workflow. Been searching for specifics, but cannot seem to find them. Currently want to host 50 users, scanning in 300,000 documents per month. Need some memory and CPU guidelines and the number of servers that are recommended.

I know in the past, LF recommended separate servers for WebLink, SQL, LF, Workflow (I believe 2 for this)--is this still current with the number of users?

I see that there is now a Web Accelerator911--does this run as a separate server?

Can anyone point me to some specifics that I can give to our Data Center VM administrator?

Hi David,

Hosting Laserfiche for customers is an option; reach out to your Regional Manager for more information on how to do so.

As for separating servers, at the very least, you will want the Laserfiche Server and the SQL Server on their own dedicated machines. For WebLink and Workflow, it is up to your discretion. It comes down to the amount of traffic you are expecting, and how many workflows you intend to have running at a time. For ideal performance, each would be on its own server, though this is not always an option. To ultimately make a decision, it will take a significant amount of forethought, estimation, and testing. For more information on hardware requirements and server guidelines, check out the Laserfiche Hardware Planning and Specifications white paper. This presentation from Empower 2014 is another great resource for planning an implementation: Designing Your Laserfiche Environment

Web Accelerator runs as a separate server, and is also recommended as being allocated to its own dedicated machine. You can read about Web Accelerator, as well as it's requirements, here

The latest version of the Hardware Planning & Specs whitepaper I've found is from September 2012 which makes it a good 3 years old at this point.  Is there a current copy or plans to update or a PPT equivalent?

I did check out the "Designing your Laserfiche Environment" which is great.  We're looking for concise whitepaper we can send to clients when they say "send me your hardware requirements".  Sending minimum requirements doesnt make sense and we've not done discovery to know what we recommend, but the Hardware P&S whitepaper at least answers what the approach is.
