Question

export folder contents to PDF without text files

asked on November 12, 2014

Hello,

Is there a way to export folder structure and all the documents as PDF's without generating the txt files for each document with the OCR'd text?  I can't seem to find a way in options to do this.  I just want the PDF's without the txt files.

Any ideas?

You could run a Within Folder search on the folder, then select all of the PDFs and do Export Electronic File. It would lose the folder structure though.

I wouldn't want to loose the folder structure.

Also to be clear, the documents are not stored in LF as PDF's...they are in the native TIFF format.  They are being converted to PDF when I export based on my export options settings.

I'm sure I can run a del *.txt /s command to get rid of them after the fact, but it would be nice to be able to tell Laserfiche that we only want the images.

Is the Answer to this question then "NO"?  We have a client who just asked this exact same question because they don't want to lose the folder structure, but they do not want the .txt files either.  They would just prefer to get the PDF images, but no .txt file.  Could someone from LF answer this question or confirm that when you do a Export Folder content there is no way to disable it from also Exporting the Document Text.

There is currently no way to disable exporting the text in this situation.

Is this something that can be added in a new release?

Once exported, you can run a search for .txt files in the resulting folder(s) and then select and delete them all at the same time.

I have a client that would like to export the folders as well as the folder structures. He has 9.0 and he has been able to export folders and the folder structures before, but now it only take the folder and the sub-folders with just the first document. Is there a way he can export all the folder and the folder structures with all the documents? There should be a way to do this?!? Is the ability in 10.1?

Hi Crystal,

I'm not exactly following what the problem is, but Laserfiche 10 provides the 'Download Folder Contents' action which will export the folder structure and documents under a specified starting folder. This exists in version 9 as well - I noticed that there were some bugs that would occasionally occur with this item that have been resolved in Laserfiche 10, although I'm not sure if that applies to your case.

Bert, we don't have that in the current release, but I'd like to include it. Do you find that text is ever useful? Personally I'm thinking of just always excluding it, but I want to ensure there's no situation where it might be useful to have.

I have never found a case were I or my customers needed the exported txt files.  Since the functionality is already there and there may be a need, I would like to see an option added to the export to allow the user to choose to export the txt files or not with the PDFs.

I think the problem was the bugs in 9. It was not downloading all the documents, just the very first one and that was it. Also, the customer wanted an option to permanently delete the folder out of Laserfiche once it was downloaded. Thank you for the help
