Enhancement Request: Show Field Label Value Instead of Variable Name in Summary

asked on November 6, 2014 Show version history

When adding a variable to be shown in "instance and task descriptions", it shows the variable name. It would be nice if it would instead show the Field Label value.

Thanks. That's already on the list.

Miruna, do you know when this will be resolved? I was hoping it would have been in the 9.2.1 release, but noticed it was not.

I am seeing that in Forms 10 this was not addressed in the initial release or Update 1. Is there a time frame for when this will be fixed?

Hi Blake,

Variable name won't reuse the Field label for the variable name since variable is on process level, not form level. But we are aware of your need for a friendly name for variable and will look into adding the capability in future.

What if in the same window where you tell it to Include the variable in instance and task descriptions, when checked, have it ask what label name you would like for it to show as well?

Hi Blake,

Thanks for the idea! We will consider it.

Any update on this request? It is already being used several places.

It's been a few years since I initially made this request. Any chance it will be included in a release this year? If it was configurable the same way it works for reports, where you can add a custom label for a variable, that would be perfect.

Hi Blake,

In case I misunderstand your needs, could you describe your question again with a newer version Forms?

@████████ this feature in Forms hasn't changed over the years, so the original request is still the same. I'll try to explain it a little better though.

If you have configured a Forms Process Options to use Summary Details, in the Summary Details for a User Task it shows the variable name (see screenshot from original post) which includes underscores. This is not very user friendly, and I do not use the summary details in most cases because of this issue.

What I am requesting is the ability to customize the naming of the selected variables just like you can when creating a custom report.

This would allow for a friendlier name of the variables to be displayed to end users.

Any chance this will be fixed in version 12?

Hi Blake,

I don't think we have fixed this so far. Actually the variable name is process level, while the field label is per form, thus we need efforts to realize what we already supported on custom reports page, to give it a friendly name for each variable. I will check with Forms team again if we have plan to support it, but it won't be included in Forms 12 this year, sorry for that.

A feature request[ID: 525037] has been created for this, we will consider working on it after Forms 12 release.
