Question

What is the difference between a Submission ID and Instance ID - LF Forms

asked on October 31, 2014

What is the difference between a Submission ID and Instance ID in Laserfiche Forms? Are there specific use cases for each and a combination of both?

If you are looking for a unique identifier, which of these two IDs will you use?

Thanks in advance.

A process can have multiple form submission steps(multiple user tasks), the instance ID is for each instance of the process, a submission ID is for each submission in this instance.

What will the unique identifier be used for?

If you're looking to use a unique identifier specific to one time that the process ran, you'll want to use the Instance ID.  If you are looking to identify a particular form submission, then you'll use the Submission ID.
