How do I find where the import agent lf.licx file belongs?

posted on October 31, 2014

The activation tool keeps trying to put the file on the desktop, I know it does not belong there. I tried searching the directory for an existing file and none is found. Is there a way to ensure the path is correct when I activate?

Also, what happens if I do not choose to save to a file? Why is this an option?

I was just confused since the activation tool was in a folder called activation, unlike when I am working in the Server program files folder and the activation tool was in the root directory.

I usually search for it to see where it belongs and it was no where to be found. Sometimes it has to be in the bin directory, etc.

Note that it doesn't matter where you save the license file to when you're doing the actual manual activation. The reason that we default to the Windows desktop is that it's easy to see and the assumption is also that you're going to need to move the license to another computer anyways (since you're doing a manual deactivation to begin with as the typical use case is for activating products on computers that don't have access to our activation server). As long as you then place the license file into its proper location and then restart the application/service (whichever appropriate) then the new license will be in use.

The Import Agent license file belongs in the application's installation directory. By default, on a 64 bit machine, it's located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Laserfiche\Import Agent.

When you manually activate using the activation tool, you need to enter something to save the license as, whether it be just a file name or the full file path. If you just enter a file name, then it will default to the same folder that the activation tool is in.

If you're referring to saving the activation key in an ACTIVATIONKEY file and that being optional, that's because it's used for automatic deactivation purposes when you uninstall the application. Since there are scenarios that warrant a manual deactivation, the ACTIVATIONKEY file won't be necessary so that's why it's optional when manually activating.
