Question

Creating a shortcut/.LFE without right-clicking

asked on October 27, 2014

Is there a way to create a shortcut or .LFE without having to right-click on the folder?

We have some users who have access to a folder, but not to its parent folder.  (i.e., they have access to TAMU-CLAR\Business Office\ProCard Receipts, but not to TAMU-CLAR\Business Office\.)  So if they type the exact address into the navigation bar, it opens, but they can't get to it by navigating through the parent folder.

I'm hoping they can avoid having to type in the address every time by creating a shortcut to the sub-folder, but I can't figure out how to do that without right-clicking on the folder itself (which requires being in the parent folder).

I think I found a way to cheat it by creating a shortcut myself, then moving it into the folder these users can access.  I assume they'll be able to copy that shortcut to their desktops or other folders in Laserfiche.  But if there's a more direct way to go about creating the shortcut, I'd like to know what it is.

Thanks!

Most of the time, I would recommend going to the access rights of the parent folder and granting them Browse and Read access with a scope of This Entry Only.

Adjusting the entry access rights per Bert's suggestion would be a best practice in this situation.  Your users would only be able to see the receipts subfolder within TAMU-CLAR\Business Office\, exactly as you intend.  smiley
