Fill Out PDF Form activity in Workflow

asked on October 21, 2014

I would like to retrieve the Laserfiche Forms Content and fill out a PDF using Fill Out PDF Form activity. But when I run the workflow it says 'No Entry was Specified'.

I even tried to just use 'Fill Out PDF Form' activity in the workflow and manually set the fields in the fill out pdf form. It still gives the message 'No Entry was Specified'.

Pleas advise.

Fill Out PDF Form needs a document to work with, it does not create one. You need to either specify a document in Laserfiche that is the empty PDF form or create a document, attach the PDF Form to it, then fill in the fields.

Hi Miruna,

I followed all the steps you mentioned above, but my wf stops in Fill Out PDF Form activity. Any idea?

Thanks! Vic

Yes, I am selecting the PDF document under the 'Select master PDF form:' and assigning values to the fields

That's not what I'm talking about. The master PDF is there to specify which fields are to be added. It does not specify which Laserfiche document to modify. That is specified in the Entry section of the activity's properties. The default is the starting entry for the workflow, but since you are starting it from Forms, there is no starting entry. So you will need to create a document in Laserfiche first, then use Attach Electronic Document to add the PDF to it, then you can use that entry in Fill Out PDF Form.

To add to what Miruna said, I usually create a folder on the system that is locked for editing to all but you workflow user. I then put a blank copy of the PDF there and use the Move activity to make a copy of it somewhere, then use the Fill Out PDF Form function to fill it out. This is essentially the same as above but a rename at the end instead of the beginning.

The most important thing in production though is making sure that original is not accessible to anyone but workflow because eventually you will get a support call wondering why your workflow isn't working anymore.  laugh
