Question

Can users that have the rights to see through redactions, see through redactions in Weblink?

asked on October 20, 2014

I have a customer that has given a group rights to see through redactions but they can't as they are using Weblink.  I did a recreation and verified this, but noticed that read-only users can see through redactions in the client.  Is this just the way Weblink is or is this a bug?

Thank you!

If your customer is using Laserfiche Server 9.0.3 and higher, please see the first bullet point in KB 1013326.

You now have the option to control whether Laserfiche forces WebLink 7 and WebLink 8 to always display redactions. You can manually modify the value for AlwaysRedactForWebLink in the dboptions table in your Laserfiche SQL database. By default, when WebLink 7 or 8 connects to a Laserfiche Server 9 repository, the See Through Redactions entry access right is ignored and redactions will always be applied. Set the dboptions value to 0 to allow users with the See Through Redactions right to see document content behind redactions when using WebLink. (106115)

Hi Alex,

I looked for this in my database and I did not find this entry in the database. Is it supposed to be placed in manually?

If you are using Laserfiche Server 9.0.3 or later and in the repository database, in the dboptions table, you do not see a row for "AlwaysRedactForWebLink" then go ahead and insert a new row for that optionname and set the optionvalue to 0

Would this be an issue because I have looked at various machines that have Laserfiche installed for testing purposes and all have an instance of SQL running on their respective machines. This entry was not found on any of them though in the Web Administration console the option to prevent Weblink from seeing through redactions was checked off by default. Would these two options conflict?

Edit:

After reviewing these options. In the Web Administration Console it was defaulted being checked and preventing Weblink users to see through redactions. This entry did not appear in the database until I unchecked the option. Given this I tested which selection took priority over the other. The Web Administration Console setting took priority and making adjustments straight to the database had no effect on the redactions in either case of it being checked or unchecked within the Web Administration Console.

Did you restart the Laserfiche Server after making changes to the dboptions table? A lot of items like that are only checked on Server startup. If you go through the interface, the Server knows that it changed, but it has no way of knowing if you modify the database directly unless it specifically checks. All the Web Administration option does is set the dboption, so precedence should not enter into it - just whether the Server is aware that the change has been made.
