Question

WebLink Without Named User or Retrieval License in RIO?

asked on October 20, 2014

We are planning a move to RIO 9.1 and WebLink 8.2 with an unlimited public portal license.

Will I be able to assign security, and associate to an Active Directory account, and not use a Named User or Retrieval License if I mark the user as Read Only?

For example, will I be able to set up a user as Read Only and allow them to:

  1. Use a public portal license
  2. Not require the purchase of a Named or Retrieval license
  3. Limit security to specific folders
  4. Connect with AD

Yes, this is possible. The Windows accounts cannot have a named user license. This requirement is met as long as the user and/or any windows groups the user is a member of isn't being granted a named user license in the License Manager or Directory Server. When you grant the Windows Accounts access to the repository in the Laserfiche Administration Console, just make sure that the user (or Windows group(s) the user is a member of) is set to be read-only and does not have the "Manage Trustees" privilege. Lastly, you can configure the repository access rights for this user as you normally would through the Laserfiche Client.
