weblink Security

posted on October 20, 2014

I have a customer using Weblink that is trying to lock down access to some PDF files in there Laserfiche repository.

The customer would like to remove the right to Print or Export these PDF documents

I currently have the Feature Right set to Search only

The Access rights are Browse and Read.

I am able to Browse to the specific document but with these rights I get a 404 error when I try and open the document.

If I add the feature right Print or Export along with Search the document open correctly with no issues but know the Customer can Print or Export the documents.

If I do the same thing with a Tiff file

I currently have the Feature Right set to Search only

The Access rights are Browse and Read.

The document opens with no issues.

Is there a way to get PDF files to open with just the Search Feature right?

When viewing electronic files in WebLink in their associated application, the file needs to be downloaded to the local machine where the web browser is. Without the export feature right, users get the 404 error. A way to workaround this is to generate pages for those PDF files and then configure WebLink to view electronic files in the standard document display.

Keep in mind this still doesn't keep them from doing this completely. If you generate pages, they will still be able to use their web browser to print. However each page would have to be printed separately (and for a somewhat clear print they'd have to know what they are doing to set zones so they don't get all of the rest of the stuff on the page).

In other words, there's no way to stop them completely unless you also have the ability to turn off printing from their web browser in a corporate environment.
