Workflows and change of Exchange settings

If the Exchange email settings were changed in Workflow configuration, will the active workflows take into effect the new change?

It's working for new workflows but for workflows that are already running there are instances that are still using the old information.

Were they configured with custom settings? If the email is part of a routing activity that's currently waiting on a user action, those activities will not pick up any updated settings.

Once the user performs an action to move the workflow, which is in a loop, and ends up going back to send the same email, will it now send it with the updated server information?
