Configuring DocuSign Connect Service Settings for Web Access

asked on October 17, 2014 Show version history

I am trying to configure DocuSign Connect Service to connect to publish information to the Laserfiche DocuSign import web service. I see an error "Error - The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error" in the docusign connect error logs. Is it because docusign is not able to access the import web service? Please help. I see this error: Error: Exception in EnvelopeIntegration.RunIntegration in the logs.

Some questions to help figure out what's going on here:

1) Please post the full error. For example, I got an error

10/17/2014 7:54:11 PM  Error: Exception in EnvelopeIntegration.RunIntegration: c351f651-6b91-4fb8-8b7d-761db098bdfe :: https://badmachinename/DocuSignConnectService/receivepdf :: Error - The remote name could not be resolved: 'badmachinename'

when I attempted to connect to an invalid machine.

2) Are there any events from DocuSign Connect Service in the Event Viewer on the machine where the import service is installed? If so, please post those events.

3) If there are no events in the event viewer, it's possible that DocuSign cannot reach your import service machine. To determine if this is the case, check the logs for IIS on the machine where the DocuSign import service is installed. IIS logs are located under c:\inetpub\logs\LogFiles\W3SVC1. This will tell us if DocuSign actually reached the import service. A successful call looks something like this:

2014-10-17 19:59:45 yourIPAddressHere POST /DocuSignConnectService/receivepdf - 443 - 209.46.117.172 - 201 0 0 1430

Where the bolded portion /DocuSignConnectService/receivepdf should be the same on your logs. Since you received a 500 error, you should see a 500 instead of the 201. (More info on reading these logs here)

Thanks.

1) For security reasons, I do not want to give machine name.

2)  There are no events from DocuSign Connect Service in the Event Viewer on the machine where the import service is installed.

3) There are no entries in the logs for IIS on the machine where the DocuSign import service is installed about receivepdf.

Does these mean that docusign is not able to reach the import service?

You can simply edit the machine name for posting the error message. Does this mean you saw the same message I posted, but with your machine?

If you saw the same error and nothing was logged to the iis logs and event viewer, it is very likely that DocuSign cannot reach the machine at all. You may need open a port in the firewall (as mentioned in the help files), enter the Fully-Qualified Domain Name (e.g., YourMachine.YourDomain.com rather than just YourMachine), or just check for typos.

I suspect the issue is a firewall problem. Rather than simply opening up port 443 to all external traffic, you may wish to host the DocuSign import service in a DMZ with so that the import service can be configured to be accessible to DocuSign and also to send data to an internal Laserfiche Server. This presentation discusses installing web applications in a DMZ, among other topics.

I see the below message in IIS logs:

2014-11-24 19:41:02 128.194.147.27 POST /DocuSignConnectService/receivepdf - 443 - 209.46.117.172 - 500 19 5 15

I do not see any message in event viewer. We have opened port 443 and we get the below error in docusign connect:

Error: Exception in EnvelopeIntegration.RunIntegration: 9c133171-5330-4cd6-b054-fbd2faf017fa :: https://CIS-LF-9Test2.tamu.edu/DocuSignConnectService/receivepdf :: Error - The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send.; Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

Please let us know if we are missing anything else for the docusign connetc to store documents in repository. Thanks.

I've never encountered this issue before, so I suspect it is some security setting on your machine. You could try opening a support case to further troubleshoot.
