Is there a maximum field size (not width) for a multi-line field?

My customer is asking if there is a maximum character limit for a multi-line field or is it unlimited?

I know the default maximum number of characters is 20,000. Whether or not it can go past that, I'm not sure.

It can store 2 GB data
