Question

forms 9.1.1 and IE8

asked on October 14, 2014

The City has standardized on IE8 for a while and is reluctant to upgrade because of the customizations that have occurred over time.  In the installation instuctions for Forms it says

"Client Workstation

  • Users can fill out forms that start a process in Chrome, Safari (Mac only), Firefox 10 and higher, Internet Explorer 7 and higher, Opera."

However when we use IE8 to start a process we get the error message on the attachment.  We have been to the Microsoft site and have done everything it says to do for that error, but to no avail.  What is it about IE 8 that seems to make it incompatible with Forms 9.1.1 both starting a process and when accessing the designer or other administrative pages?  Are there any patches that we can apply to make IE8 compatible?

Hello Mark,

Is this happening on every form you have or only some?  Can you confirm that the same message appears when you have no CSS or Javascript associated with the form?

In response to your question about accessing the designer and administrative pages, I imagine Laserfiche is using newer coding practices such as CSS3, HTML5, and jQuery. HTML5 support started in IE8, but was not fully compliant. The same can be said for CSS3.

The only patch you can apply would be "IE9 or above".
