Question

How often do servers check in to the Rio license manager, and should they fail if the license is invalid on the first day?

asked on October 13, 2014 Show version history

In switching to the new Directory Services app, we had about 8 servers to reissue license files for using our new LFDS server. I had always been under the impression that servers attempt to check in every day for 7 days - at which point they will become invalid. It seems this becomes invalid on day 1 now. Was it ever a 7 day timeout? I read this post:

I am just looking for detailed clarity in to how Rio license validation works. Thanks!

If the license becomes invalid, the server would fail immediately. The grace period applies only when the Laserfiche Server can't contact the License Manager/Directory Service to verify its license.

We have just moved to the new directory server and have experienced an issue when all the servers are rebooted including the directory server. When the servers come backup the services fail to start until the Directory Service has completely started.

When the Directory server is back up and running all you have to do is restart the services.

The services will not start until DS is back online.

This is different to the license manager 8.3.1 and the servers worked when unable to contact the license server?

Is the frequency of checking / unable to contact server changed?

Can you give more of an explanation what you mean by this Miruna? "The license becomes invalid"  what would cause a license to "become invalid".

There are a couple of reasons. For ex, the machine registration is deleted from the License Manager. Or you are running with an evaluation master license and its expiration date has passed.

I was looking for clarification because I experienced the exact same issue as the OP, when I upgraded to LFDS.  All existing servers from LicMgr 8.3.1 were invalidated on the first day.  Maybe something for you guys to look into.

Was this an in-place update from License Manager to LFDS? Or was LFDS installed on a different machine?

In place upgrade.

Is this the same customer where migrating the database didn't work initially?
