Question

Workstation to workstation Laserfiche installation over small network

asked on October 6, 2014

Is it possible to install and configure Laserfiche to run workstation to workstation, on a small network by installing the server & client software one on workstation and the second client on another workstation?  I’m trying to create this in office and have have run into issues trying to attach / log into the server from the 2nd workstation.

Thanks,

It's possible.  What message are you getting when trying the connect the LF client to the server?

When I try to attach to the repository, I get an error: The user account name of password is incorrect. [9010].  It does not allow me to try to login.

Are you trying to use Windows authentication?  That might not work on a workgroup network.  Can you set up a Laserfiche account and try that?

I do not have the checkbox for windows authentication checked.  I get the error through the 'attach repository' dialog box.  It does not allow me to attempt to login through the start page.

This repository has defined users and groups.  Would attempting to do this with a new repository with no defined users have different results?

What's the exact version of the Laserfiche Server and Client being used? Is it some version of 9.1.0, 9.1.1, 9.2.0, or something else?

9.1.1

What is the exact build? 9.1.1.xyz. In the Client, go to Help > About to get the full version. Also get the full version of C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Server\lfs.exe.

On the LF server side, are you able to use the client on that machine normally or do you get the same message?

How many repositories do you have?

If more than one, do you get the same behavior on all of them?

If it only happens on one, is the problem repository a copy of the other?

The client on the workstation with the server responds normally.

There are two repositories, an old version of demorepository, with multiple users/groups, and a newly created one, with no users/groups defined (other than admin).

This happens when trying to attach to either repository.

Thanks,

Is the LF server in the same machine as the SQL instance it is using?

What account is the LF server service using?

Yes, Laserfiche and SQL Server Express 2008 R2 are on the same machine.

Not sure what account the LF server is using.  How can I find out?

Go to Start > run
type in "services.msc". Once that comes up, look for the LF server service.  Right click on it and go to Properties > Logon tab.  What account shows there?

Local System account.  'Allow system to interact with desktop' is not checked.

Change the login and make it use your windows account instead of local system.

To find out what that is exactly, go to start > run and run whoami.  Use the account exactly as shown there.

The assumption here is that your account is local admin.  If you are not local admin, make yourself one or use one that is.

Once that is done, restart the LF server service and try again.

It does not look like anyone has had you check the firewall on the PC hosting the LF Service.  You need to make sure that the correct ports are opened to allow communication between the external clients and the server.
