Question

RIO : License Polling from Laserfiche Server to LicenseManager

asked on October 6, 2014

Hi,

We have a situation in with a LF Rio Customer. Primary server having license manager is down due to hardware failure. Team is working on restoring the hardware.

Meanwhile we want to know that how long other servers will work

  1. Server 1 : Laserfiche 8.1.2
  2. Server 2: Laserfiche 9.0

I understand Laserfiche Servers check if they can connect to License Manager after a scheduled interval and if they could not connect then then Service stops.

Look forward to your feedback at the earliest.

Hi Chandresh,

The Laserfiche server communicates with the License Manager at all times (every 2 minutes I think I remember reading somewhere although I could be wrong).

Basically the 'grace-period' means, that if the link between the LF server and the License Manager server is broken for whatever reason you have 7 days to correct the problem before the Laserfiche server services no longer start anymore. The LF server will continue to run normally during the 7 days but then will stop on the 7th day.

Hope this helps explain! smileyyes

Hi Chandresh,

The grace period is 7 days.

See this post - https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/47594/Grace-period-for-LF-products

Hope this helps!

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the feedback. Does this mean that

- Laserfiche Server looks for License Manager on daily basis? and the day it could not connect 7 days grace period starts

- Laserfiche Server looks for License Manager every 7th day and thus if it could not connect it stops the service

Look forward to your feedback

Rgds

Chandresh

So the server will run for 7 days, but what happens to the users? Can they login during the grace period with no access to License Manager?

The Laserfiche Server maintains a local list of named users. So the user will be able to login in during the grace period. There is no loss of functionality in the LF Server during the grace period (besides not being able to add new named users through License Manager, obviously).
