Question

Working with pdf documents in LF

asked on October 3, 2014

We have a process where policies and procedures are created as separate documents, then merged within the County's manual (a pdf) for staff viewing.

We have discovered that we cannot insert pages into a pdf in Laserfiche, so this process is going to have to change.  Our staff are used to being able to insert pages, delete pages, and replace pages in the manuals.  We are debating what to do about this.

In your experience, what are our options?

This would be somewhat of a process though you can have it automated. You can have this process done at the end of the day when no one is accessing the document. I would suggest making a script in workflow.

You could create a workflow that would move all the TIFFs from the main PDF document to a new document. You would then add the other TIFF pages from the other document to the new document. Have workflow use an SDK Script to export the document as a PDF and re-import it back in and replace the existing PDF document.

Edit: This process could be done as long as all the documents have pages generated for them.

Or you can get rid of the PDF file if necessary and keep it as a Laserfiche document(TIFF). You can then move the pages from the other documents to the existing document.
