Quickfields - Output entries have no pages - No way to explain, settings are not configured to remove pages, only merge.

posted on October 1, 2014

This session has no page removal elements. There is a feature enabled to Merge the documents upon storage. It is under Document Storage - Document Merging. I can't see anything that would remove all pages on the final entry but yet the entries come out empty sometimes. Running the same entries through the same session works the second time, without changing any configurations.

It is working correctly on this pass through. It only seems to be when Agent runs the session and it appears to be intermittent. What I can't understand is how it could even be possible for any entries to be created with absolutely NO pages. There is no configuration to possibly do this under any circumstance that I can see. So I can not explain how it could be remotely possible.

The entries are sitting in the QF input box created by User "Quick Fields" with No Pages. No users have access to this box except my Admin account.

If the session runs through QF Agent, you should be able to find the log for the session that created them in the History node in the admin console. Based on the creation date, you could find the corresponding run of the session in QF Agent. You can see if there were any errors when QF tried to send the documents. If it was an intermittent error, like the server not being available, the documents may have been sent on the next pass.

Somehow I lost my logs after deleting my schedules, it seems to only have log files for the new schedules now. I can see from the schedule history though that there is no processing or storage errors.

The tokens set to populate metadata are also set to be included in the name for document merging purposes, well the zero page documents have no metadata but have all the information in the name.

This means the session must have had data in those tokens which if they were documents created by this session (the only session) then the metadata should have been populated.

The only conclusion I can see is that the Document Merge is creating these zero page entries as some sort of overflow junk and no data is actually being lost. By using the information in the file name we should be able to verify this, I am checking with the customer now and they are checking through the batch done that day which have since been exported from Laserfiche.

Any chance you have Audit Trail? Quick Fields could create empty docs in 2 cases: they either show up in the session as a result of removing all pages or an invalid error OR the document is fine in Quick Fields, but an error occurs when sending it to LF (possibly in the middle of settings fields or adding pages).

No Audit Trail on this install. The customer confirmed they already received these documents, so these zero page documents are duplicates as I suspected and they were created by QF at the same time as the valid ones. This is the second time they have run into this after processing over 100k or so pages. Only about 40 of these have shown up total now and in both cases a re-process from the backup TIFF images does not create any zero page documents. Appears to be a random output of the document merge. I don't fully understand how the document merge works, this is my first time using it and I am only using it because they have a multi-part first page form with no page numbers.

The summary says that 415 documents were stored with 1458 pages. Only 17 entries were actually stored and only 1 page total came across.

I am re-running from backup now to see what happens, this makes no sense.

Edit: Found a scheduled purge deleted the documents that came across with pages. That explains why there is only 17 entries. It appears that just a few of the entries came across with no pages, which is what I need to determine how that is possible given the session configuration. I have some fresh documents, untouched out of QF with no pages still in the inbox.

Is there anything reported in the sending summary when this happens? Do the numbers in the summary match the number of processed pages?
