Question

Question

Access file outside of Laserfiche.

asked on September 29, 2014

For a new client to Laserfiche they are looking to automate their business process.  This process includes taking a file that is submitted sometime during the week to Laserfiche  and posting a link to it on their public website as a meeting agenda.

My first thought was Weblink.  However for budget issues currently Weblink is not an option.

So without that I think I can provide a link to the document using tokens and store it in a database perhaps.  Such as http:\\webserver\token1\token2.  However I don't have a way to provide access to the file outside of Laserfiche.  Is there an option for Laserfiche to copy the file to a location outside of Laserfiche Repository?

This customer currently has not been proposed the SDK but if needed its a possiblility.

Scott,

I have a custom workflow activity I call 'File I/O' that will give your workflows the ability to move, copy, rename, or delete Windows files from a UNC path or mapped drive.  Filename property is token enabled to allow flexibility when working with documents.  There is a fully functional 30 day trial activity that you can download to test it.  The URL is http://www.qfiche.com

Let me know if this will work for you.

I like your custom workflows.

I am still having some difficulty getting it to work, but I emailed your contact info from the website.  I was curious however if this works to move files that are in the LF repository to a UNC path.  Or does this only work one way.

Scott,

I got your email.  It sounds like you are trying to 'export' a file from the repository to a specific UNC path and filename as opposed to manipulating a file that already exists outside of the repository.  If that is correct then use the 'Document Export' workflow activity instead of the 'File I/O' activity.  The 'Document Export' workflow activity will allow you to export a document from the repository to a specified UNC path and filename in one of several formats.
