Question

Rio - When will 9.2 be released?

asked on September 29, 2014

I noticed Rio 9.2 isn't available yet. I'm assuming it's because of Directory Manager.

One little feature enhancement in the client is something some of my clients have been asking about forever:

Creating a new document from an existing document now uses the existing field values on the source document instead of using default values for new documents.

Thanks!   laugh

Chris, I believe you are asking because you see that Avante 9.2 is already available for download. I wouldn't think Rio is too far behind and I'm sure you are right in your assumption that it is because of the new licensing tool.

The RTM of Laserfiche Rio 9.2 is expected (but not guaranteed) to be later this week. It will be part of the full release in early October.

Hi Chris,
The Laserfiche Product Roadmap will show you exactly when we expect to release products, and will be updated as more information is available. At this time Laserfiche 9.2 (Avante and Rio) are targeted for October of this year, along with Laserfiche Forms 9.2 and Laserfiche Mobile 9.2. Keep checking the roadmap for precise dates as they become available!

As for your feature request, is that a new request you would like to submit, or is it something you have requested in the past? If it's a new request, can you provide us with more information about why this functionality is preferred over the functionality currently offered? Understanding your use case will help us understand the benefits of providing a feature.

Kelsey,

The line I posted is actually in your 9.2 release notes. I have a few customers who have been asking for this for a while. We have some workflows that work around this but they are inefficient because have to reload the document after waiting for the workflow to run.

The use case for this was they may have a packet that gets uploaded that has multiple documents (for example, an HR dept employee packet) that all have the same basic info, like a employees name. With this upgrade they can scan them all in, put basic info in and save it, then proceed to break apart the separate documents using the client and NOT have to put all the basic info in, just the different "HR doctypes" (in my hypothetical scenario).

So, thanks for adding it!  This was actually a sticking point for a few of our potential customers who we tried to move from an older less feature rich doc management system. The customers were very hooked on that functionality for quickly filing documents "by hand" electronically.

Chris - If the feature you are looking for is within the 9.2 client, then you can simply download the Avante 9.2 and install the server and client for your users.  There is nothing that is different between the RIO 9.2 and the Avante 9.2 except that the RIO download just bundles more of the products that come with RIO.  If you download Avante 9.2, Web Access 9.2, and License Manager 8.3.1 you are basically getting what would be in the RIO 9.2 download just all separated out.  The new Directory Services will be included in that download as well, but it is not necessary for you to download RIO 9.2 just to install the LF Server and clients because they are on the RIO platform.  We are upgrading our systems tonight and we are on RIO, but I am just going to be using the Avante Install files.
