how to rename documents in quickfields

How can I rename documents in a quickfields session?

 

There are in a network drive as this:

 

L584403-09242014104628.tif

 

I want the document to be named only the first 7 characters.

 

L584403

Is it always going to be 7 characters? If the dash, after the first 7, is constant but the characters before the dash may increase or decrease you can use the dash as a defining character. I used %(Name#<(\w*)-.*>#) in a pattern match to grab anything before the dash.

If your copy of Quick Fields includes the Pattern Matching add-on, then you can configure the default document name to be %(Name#<\w{7}>#)
