Question

adobe version11 & column ocr'ed pages

asked on September 22, 2014

Hi,

Is there an issue with LF 9.0.2.728 and Adobe (acrobat) version 11? User Joan with Adobe version 10 ocrs a document, column Ocr'ed Pages shows =ALL but user Debbie with Adobe 11, that column shows as blank as doc appears to have OCR'ed.

When Joan OCRs the same document with version 10, they both can see “All” for columen Ocr'ed pages.

Both users have the same LF client version.

I have no issues with LF9.1.1 and Adobe 11.

For those uncomfortable pulling anything off cnet, you can also still get the v9 PDF iFilter directly from Adobe's public FTP site: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/9.x/

The filename is PDFiFilter64installer.zip

We've had reports where using the v11 PDF IFilter from Adobe can cause problems with text extraction. Our recommendation is to uninstall the v11 PDF IFilter and instead, install the v9 PDF IFilter. You can download it from here.

Is the issue with v11 PDF IFILTER still active or we should use v9?

You might also want to confirm how they are generating text - in the desktop client there's an 'advanced options for text generation for pdfs' in tools\options\generate text. The preferred method for generating text in 9.1 is native text extraction through direct PDF integrations. iFilter is still available as an advanced option, but is less reliable, and won't match up with the images.
