Throwback Thursday! - On which version did you start out?

posted on September 18, 2014 Show version history

So - what version of Laserfiche did you get started with?

When I came onboard, our Document Imaging project had just started in the previous year.  They had started with Laserfiche 6, and had just upgraded to version 7.  I ended up dealing with a few v6 clients that had been skipped.  6-7 seemed like a big jump in the interface.

Back in those days we had just 5 repositories.  We had decided to pick a few smaller departments where we thought we could have some good successes as we learned how all this worked.  Since then we have grown to 16 repositories with lots of integrations and automation.

And now, we are moving from 7 to 9.

So - Where did you get started?

At Empower 2015, look for those wearing this pin:  Their organizations are celebrating their 20th year of actively using Laserfiche!  From this discussion trail, looks like we have a few more "20's" coming up for Empower 2016! laugh

I cut my teeth on Laserfiche 5 and have steadily progressed to the current Laserfiche 9 -- just awaiting my 9.2 installation!

Started as a VAR with 4.3  It came on a bunch of floppy discs! HA!  Windows NT and a Pervasive DB.  All the scanners were SCSI connected and huge.  I still have a users manual from that version.

I worked with ver 4 quite a few years ago at an insurance company client of mine, then 7 to 8.3 at the SRNA.  Looking forward to upgrading early next year

I'm pretty sure we as a company started in 2000 with version 2.x.  I started in 2007 on version 7.2.  Looking forward to Empower 2015 and version 9.2.

We started with Version 4 or 5 with a VAR. Then we were introduced to LSG (Jeffrey Green) and moved forward to 7. Now we have kept going to 8 and last year to RIO 9.  Time flies when you are having fun and always looking to RUN FASTER!

Timothy - from 4 or 5 to 9!  During that time were you just upgrading, or expanding as well?  Were you doing more with LAserfiche?

Michael,

We have been with Laserfiche for many years. During that time we have grown some, but the true reason for upgrading has been changes in our industry. As FINRA regulations become more and more complex, we have found that by utilizing the features and workflows within Laserfiche we are able to remain efficient. At first we used Laserfiche for document storage, simple scan and save. Now we have workflows for most business processes.  We have also made this functionality available to our advisors in the field.

We signed up as a VAR in February, 1998.  My first install was Laserfiche 4.2e in March 1998.  It shipped to us on a bunch of floppy disks.

4.3?!?

I can't imagine!

You wouldn't happen to have a screenshot, would you?

I recently worked on a project for Karl's 25th anniversary and dug up screenshots from versions going all the way back to 1990. It's amazing to think that some of the things we take for granted (like thumbnails or annotations) weren't always there.

For your viewing pleasure, here's how Laserfiche looked 20 years ago!

Wow, it's not as different as I would have guessed! I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it :)

Although it doesn't cover the individual versions, here's a great product history from our CTO Karl Chan!

Great image.  I wonder what it would look like if it also displayed all the integrations to third party solutions as they became available?

Maybe something we could put together for Empower. Like a quiz or challenge question board.

When I joined Laserfiche, all the buzz was around version 8.3 - hard to believe that was almost 3 years ago now and I'll be attending my 4th Empower conference in January! How time flies.

It is truly amazing how much Empower has grown!  I can imagine someday that it will take over Disney World to get everyone in one place.
