Question

Upload new version from within Laserfiche

asked on September 12, 2014

Hi,

We have a requirement for a user to upload a scanned and signed copy of a document to an existing MS Word document under version control, with the scanned & signed copy becoming the final version.

It only seems possible to upload a document from a Windows folder and not an existing document from Laserfiche. Is this correct? If so is there a reason why we can't upload from the Laserfiche repository? I can imagine there would be some technical challenges (i.e. what to do with the existing document that may be already under version control). I appreciate we can import a document from outside Laserfiche but it seems more logical to the user to use an existing document already in Laserfiche.

I'd like to help you find a solution, but I need a little more information before I can do so. Where are you planning to upload your document to? Are you bringing a final version of a document into Laserfiche, or are you uploading a document to a website? How is the final version being created? Are you scanning and signing the Word document outside of the system? Is it a digital signature? What does your process look like?

This is a process for a client but I'll do my best to describe the process...

They create a document using MS Word which is (for example) a draft contract. They then print this in order for it to be signed (wet signature). This then becomes the final version so they scan it into their Laserfiche inbox via Import Agent and a network scanner. Their expectation is that they could then upload the scanned version as the latest version of the MS Word document by browsing to the document within Laserfiche but they only have the option to select a document from a Windows folder which they say is an extra step. I appreciate they could choose to scan the document to a network folder and import it from there but they want to keep everything within Laserfiche. Digital signatures have been discussed but that will be some time off from now.
