Question

How can Laserfiche talk to CoSign?

asked on September 11, 2014

Context of the problem:

We had run some tests two weeks ago to use CoSign Signature to trigger Laserfiche workflow.
The workflow condition was set by whether the reason for signature is approved or not. We have tried several times. Doesn’t matter the reason was approved or not, the workflow always went to the Denied branch

How we proceed:

We posted the question to ARS support.

The feedback we got from Aorner, the CoSign Technical Support:

"Our product creates the signature field inside the PDF and the LF client plug-in will change a Field labeled as "Digital Signature" from "No" to "Yes". But we have nothing to do with logical operations (e.g. do a task if a condition is met) in workflows. "

It seems CoSign has never supported Laserfiche to query signing reason, even though signing reason is captured in CoSign. Currently, Laserfiche can only recognize whether or not a document is signed.

Just want to know if any API or LF SDK can customize a process that may enable Laserfiche to query CoSign signing reason?

If there isn't the right place to post our question, please advise where I should post my question.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Bonnie

Workflow conditions on digital signatures refer to Laserfiche digital signatures and have nothing to do with CoSign. I'm not familiar with PDFs created by CoSign, but if they use a signature on the PDF itself, you may be able to use the Verify PDF Signature activity in Workflow to get information on the signature, such as the signing reason.

Thank you Miruna for your response. How can we incorporate the token " %(VerifyPDFSignatures_Sign Reason)" into workflow. We hope we can use the sign reason as a trigger for workflow.

I also attach a PDF signed by CoSign with this reply. If possible, could you please help me to take a look at the document and see if is possible to query the sign reason by the LF workflow through the use of a token?

It's not possible to query the reason before starting the workflow. However, you could have the workflow start from an entry changed event that includes changing the electronic document.

You'd need to add more conditions, like the document extension being PDF, or the folder path and such to make sure it only starts on the documents you want.

Then in the workflow definition, you could run Verify PDF Signature to get the signing reason and route the document accordingly.

Hello Miruna,

Thank you for your reply. I have redesigned my workflow with Verify PDF Signature. I used token to query Verify PDF Signature - Sign Reason, but still could not use the Sign Reason to trigger workflow. Still everything goes to the decline/pending branch. I cannot upload .wfl file here. Can I email the workflow to you, so you can help me take a closer look? Thanks!

Unfortunately, no, we cannot provide direct support through this forum. You can have your reseller open a support case if necessary.

Have you checked the instance details, specifically the Conditions tab? It should tell you exactly how the conditions were evaluated.
