Question

migrating to a new forms server

asked on September 10, 2014

Hi there

Apologies if this has been asked before.

I'm looking to move our current LF Forms setup over to a separate server.  It is currently installed with LF itself and we want to separate those services.  Unfortunately don't have a lot of LF Experience so am unsure of impact to registering new LF Forms server when configuring it and it if would muck up the existing one as a result.  Want to also implement SSL (Https) as it will be accessed offsite (DMZ) so need to know if there is any impact to that etc.  I can't seem to find a how-to document of sorts that may assist with this.  Is this something support could assist with (providing direction on how to)

Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi Mike,

This all depends on licensing (again something your VAR will be able to give you specifics on).

Generally if you are licensed for 1 Forms server you can only have 1 running at any one time. (also don't forget you will need to update the URL for the users).

Good luck Mike! laughyes

Hi Mike,

Migrating the server to a new location is pretty straight forward. All the settings for forms are stored in the DB so simply uninstall (deactivate) and re-install and re-active on the new server. Configure the forms server to point at the same DB the old one was (assuming you are not moving the DB).

Your VAR should also be able to help you out in case anything goes horribly wrong. These sort of questions really are better answered by your VAR as they will have knowledge of your existing setup and can advise in more detail.

Hope this helps for now Mike! yes

Thank-you.  Yes it's a start.  I'll contact the VAR as well. I know we did a lot of this without the VAR initially so i'm trying to sift though all of this.  Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't impacting anything when I do get the new forms server configured.  Do you know if I can have both forms servers up and running and then pick a day out in the future to transition?  or is it at time of setup that this needs to be done?  I did read somewhere about multiple forms servers and having certain forms appear on certain servers only.  not that I want to do that but if I know that I can operate and then just click migrate the forms over it would be helpful.
