New Feature Request – Annotation tags on pages

asked on September 5, 2014

Some of my customers are looking for a way to put “annotation tags” onto pages within documents.

There are actually tags for documents and we can give them a name.

What we would like to see is a new annotation category that would be called “Annotation Tags” where we could create annotation categories and annotation tags with configurable names under those categories.  This feature would be repository wide and allow searching for them.

The purpose of these would be to identify chapters, new sections, specific info in documents, etc.

Let me know if you need additional information

Hey Daniel,

Could you use the annotation color to do this? Then use the advanced search syntax to find them?

Just a thought....... smiley

You could potentially accomplish what you're looking to do using a combination of Text Box, Callout Text, and Sticky Note annotations. These three annotation types all feature the ability to be displayed in "bookmark" format using the Annotation Pane in the document viewer, in addition to having their text contents be directly searchable.

Thanks for your suggestions guys.

The suggestion by Chris will be complex for many users as it has to be an advanced search, even if we create saved search, too many saved search will be present.

The suggestion by Aaron is closer to what we were planning to use but we wanted a way for users performing the search, to have a list of pre-determined tags to search for, just like the existing document tags.

This is the reason why I have placed this feature request, to improve in this area of the application.

I like what Daniel is looking for, tags by page.  I have that request by an attorney to be able to tag by the page instead of the document.  Our sloppy work around has been to separate the document by page so that the tagging can be done.  When you have a high $$$ attorney, the steps need to be quick and simple. and allow them to flow through the document easily.  The document open with the tag metadata pane is perfect, 1 click and move on.  I've found the annotation text and/or color to require too much user training and understanding to implement successfully.

Tag by page in document would be awesome!!!

If anyone has a script or something that would work, please post.
