Question

when i click on a folder a new window opens

asked on September 2, 2014 Show version history

When I click on a folder to navigate to a sub folder or a document that I am looking for, laserfiche keeps on opening a new window. This only happens when you click on the right hand side.  This happens everytime I am in Laserfiche. What can be the issue?

Is this happening on the client or are you using WebAccess/Link?

Do you by chance have the stickykey enabled for the Shift key? That would cause things this behavior, since holding the shift key when clicking a folder will open up the folder in a new window

EDIT: This is happening to me when I hold the Shift key and multiple folders are being opened at the same time. If this is not what is happening to you, then maybe someone else will be able to answer this question for you.

Since you are a user, it may be advisable to contact your VAR and have them walk you through some troubleshooting techniques and potentially open up a LF Support case if they are unable to resolve the issue.

Hi Kenneth,

It is not the shift key. This Is on multiple PC's.

I will revisit the setup and attributes of the security for the folder structure.

Thanks

Hello Jacques,

Is this happening for all folders or only for a select set of folders?  It could be the result of "folder tunneling".

If you have security set up in such a way that users are able to see the shortcuts for folders that are stored in a repository location that they cannot browse to, it will open a new Laserfiche window to account for the fact that the folder browser cannot display the full path.

Hi Rob,

The funny thing is it happens intermittently. We have 3 user accounts which I tested it with and they are in different groups. I also used the admin account.

On the right hand side when I navigate (Click) to browse to a particular folder, then a new window pops up. I had a look at the attributes and I can't see anything.

This afternoon when I logged in and testing it, then it worked fine again not opening windows and then a user at another sight had the same issue where it opens up new windows. I will have to revisit the security setup and maybe reset the users to default and then start setting up the security from the start.

It sounds like this might be the result of some security configuration.  Are the folders that open in new windows are shortcuts, or does this happen intermittently for regular folders as well?

If you find that a shortcut folder is opened in a new window, try explicitly granting access rights to the user account exhibiting this behavior to that tree of folders at the root level.  In other words, if User A is experiencing this issue, explicitly grant User A access rights to the root level folder being referenced by the shortcut.  If the issue persists, then it may be something else and we'll have to dig a little deeper.
