We are running Forms 9.1.1. There is an UPDATE button option on the Data Sources screen. Under what circumstances does this button have to be clicked? The reason I am asking is there is a "struggle" between the application administrator (me, not in IT) and IT regarding who should have the password to the database account that can do the update. For example, if the button needs to be clicked every time the external table is updated then I feel that the application administrator should have access to the account password, to prevent having to go to IT every time. If the UPDATE button only has to be clicked on rare occations then I do not have a problem going to IT.

Whenever you create a new table within the already configured database, you will need to click on the "update" button in order to use the new table for your lookups. Also, if you have removed any tables from your database, clicking the "update" button will delete any invalid look ups.
Updating the actual table itself (e.g. appending new rows or columns) will not require you to click on the "update" button.
Hope that helps!
