Question

Remove items from the Quick Search Bar

asked on August 28, 2014

Hi,

I want to remove some items from the quick sear bar, because our database is too big and if the users use, for instance, Search in every template field, it will have a terrible impact on the server performance, so i want to customize more specific quick searches and remove the default generic searches.

Can the default quick searches be removed from the list?

Thanks

Hello Bernard,

You're able to remove quick search options using the Web Access Client, but not the Desktop Client.  You'll need to modify the "index.aspx" file in your Web Access installation directory by adding a bit of custom javascript.

This definitely isn't a supported method of customization, so we can't give you specific code to run, but you're welcome to try to do this configuration.  Please be sure to back up your file before you modify it because this customization can cause issues if not done correctly.

Remove the deafult quick searches? not for the Client, no. But you can go into a user account in the administration console that has the proper selected quick searches you wish to have as default and export the attribute for you to import to every other account so that the "Search Fields" options is not enabled by default (unless changed manually).

The attribute should be titled:

[Search]SelectedQuickSearches

EDIT:

The value/numbers are separated by commas in that attribute. The attribute numbe for "Search Fields" is "2" so you should be able to easily remove that number if you want to do it manually.

This attribute is to indicate if the "Search Fields" is selected or not by default.

What I want is to remove it from the list. Actually I want to remove all 4 quick search criteria from the list and use only customize quick searches.

Is this possible?

I'm not sure if the settings per user for the search bar are saved in user attributes, but if they are you could set that for one user and then copy those attributes to the other users.

I am having this same issue.  I went into the Admin console and removed 1 and 8.  Kept 2 and 4.  For me and others it works every time when we open our client.  You click on the Quick Search button and it only has 2 and 4 checked.  But there are some users I have gone in and redone and redone and it want stay.  Could you tell me why?  I do not have group attributes other than the everyone.

Attributes are only the current/default settings, they don't lock anything down. A user can still go in and do normal user configuration. The only way to go about this would be the steps listed above or to manually wipe out the user's specific attributes each time. I know some administrators do wipe certain settings from individuals users periodically, but that can often lead to the users thinking the product is broken. We are looking into other ways to lock down the Search options in the future as this is a more and more common concern.
