Question

Apply zone OCR runtime before storing the documents to Repository

asked on August 27, 2014

I have different type of documents in a network folder that needs to be processed using Quick Field. ex: Tax Invoice, Toll Tax slip etc. Each will have different fields as per document type.

There is no identification condition for different document types. Scanner operator will assign the document type after documents are processed through quick field and before storing to repository. So I am not able to use Zone OCR.

Is it possible to apply Zone OCR before storing the documents (but after processing the documents using quick field) to repository and fill the metadata automatically.

I havent tried it myself, but if the documents are all in different files beforehand, you may be able to use tokens and the documents original name to separate ahead of the scanner operator what the documents that need to be separated are, even if that doesnt provide a whole lot of information yet.

Other recommendation, much simpler:

What you can do however, is set up a document class and when the scanner operator separates the files, they can right click and assign the document to a document class which will instantly perform all the page processing activities for that document.

After that is done, then they can store to the repository.

Hello Ashish,

Another possibility is to separate the identification process from the Zone OCR process.

For example, have the first session scan the documents so they can be identified by a metadata field and store them into an "Incoming" folder.  Then in a second session, have the Laserfiche Capture Engine scan the documents again, using metadata as the identifier, with document classes set up with appropriate zone OCR activities.

Rob, I agree that this type of setup is easy and nice, but most effectively would be run by QF Agent (at least for the second session) which may be out of the price range for this use case. But that does not mean the two sessions cannot be separated as you described, but since a scanner operator would have to use 2 sessions instead of 1, it may be easier to do a solution more like how I mentioned.
