Question

Can Laserfiche Admin Console 8.3.1 work with server 8.3.0?

asked on August 25, 2014

Can the Laserfiche Admin console version 8.3.1 work with a server instance of 8.3.0. The reason I ask this is that when looking in the downloads section on the support site I was unable to find a copy of version 8.3.0. Unfortunately the customer cannot upgrade at this time so upgrading to the latest version is currently not an option.

A support case was created in regards to this question. The specific scenario mentioned was about using the 8.3.1 Admin Console to check the indexing status for a repository on an 8.3.0 Server. This should be fine.

For other types of administrative actions such as user management, recycle bin management, etc. it is not recommended to use a higher version Admin Console.

shouldn't see any issues. I've noticed more issues when going up in version than going down. If you have Admin Console 8.3.1 it should work, especially since it's only a subversion number, not even  a major release.

I would however wait for a LF Representative to reply as they will be able to confirm for you. I am only speaking from my experience

Our general recommendation is that the Laserfiche Server version should match or exceed the version of the client application connecting to it. While this is only enforced when there's a major version discrepancy (e.g. 8.3 client connecting to an 8.2 server), you should still try to get your hands on a version of the client that matches your server, especially for administration purposes. If 8.3.0 is not on the archived downloads section, you can open a case with Support and they should be able to provide a copy.
