Question

Web Access import via drag and drop supports files, but not folders?

asked on August 21, 2014 Show version history

When using the desktop LF 9.1.1 client, we can import a file, files, or folders (and their subfolders and any contents) via drag and drop from Windows explorer into the Laserfiche desktop client.

With WebAccess, this seems to work fine for single documents and even for multiple documents, but drop a folder into WebAccess and nothing happens (no error and no import)...

Does WebAccess not support the drag/drop import of folders, and is limited only to documents

No, Web Access does not support the drag and drop of folders. This is mainly due to restrictions imposed by the browser.

Currently, Chrome is the only browser that supports dragging a folder into a web page.  As far as I can tell this is a non-standard extension to HTML5, so I wouldn't expect other browsers to add it.  Since it's only available in one browser it makes adding it to Web Access less of a priority.

This is not specific to Web Access: web applications in general do not support drag/drop import of folders, as the only browser that allows this without a custom extension is Chrome (v. 21+). I have read that the reason other browsers do not support drag and drop of folders is for security reasons.

As you noted, you can drag multiple documents, so the current solution is to select all the documents in the folder and drag them in together.
