Question

Laserfiche Slow from Client

asked on August 20, 2014

Have a customer who is using LF 8.3.1.  They're only using it for an archival tool, however, on Monday it just started crawling when accessing it from their PC's (takes almost 30-45 seconds for a folder to open).  I logged into the server, and it works just fine from there.  I typed in the UNC to the server  \\Ipaddress\C$ and had no issues browsing through Windows looking at the same images.  They  using SQL Express 2005.  Any ideas...I've already made sure the expansion database AutoClose is set to: False.

Thanks!

What are the resources looking like on the server (processor, memory, drive space, etc.)? What is the size of the SQL database?

Blake, I see where you're going with that...but wouldn't those factors create an issue on the server itself?  Why would using the client from the server work perfectly normal, but then accessing it from a PC over the network create such a lag if it was indeed any of the above?

The size of the SQL DB is less than 1gb.  When I monitor the CPU usage when connecting from a PC and openeing a folder, it spikes up to 50%-60%, however, when I connect on the server and open the same folder, it only goes to around 15% and for a very short time.

Hi Daryl,

I had a similar issue a few weeks back. They released a patch for 9.x clients targeting this issue. This patch fixed my issues (same exact symptoms your expressing). worth a check to see if you can use it (or a similar one). Here's the patch I used:

Daryl, I missed the part about testing it on the server. It sounds more like a network issue if it is working on the server but not the clients. Have you checked any of your routers or switches to see if they may be having problems?

Are you experiencing any network problems outside of Laserfiche?

Daryl,

Do your customer's users use the folder browser column option 'Remember layout for each folder'? Having many column layouts on a per folder basis has been known to slow down the desktop client.

I could check...but it's happening to all users and it only started happening around noon on Monday.

I have seen antivirus software that does HTTP scanning do similar things, maybe some new update was pushed around then. Might try a client with antivirus disabled or turned off.

Could call John. You might check to see if real-time scanning is enabled on the Anti-virus software.
