I have an client whose scan operators have limited rights. The end user does not want them deleting documents or deleting pages out of documents. Hence, they have "delete entry" and "delete document pages" rights disabled. The end user does want the scan operators to be able to move the documents into folders that they have access to. This works great since "delete entry" rights do not disable move operations or "cut and paste" operations.
Here's the problem. The end user also wants the scan operators to be able to scan an bunch of documents at once and move the pages from the scanned documents into other documents as those documents become available. But revoking "delete document pages" rights prevents this. It goes beyond preventing "delete" operations and also prevents "move" or "cut and paste" operations. I get that moving a page is technically deleting the page from one document and then recreating it in another document. But so too is moving a document from one folder to another. This is technically deleting the document from a folder and recreating it in another folder. Yet, removing "delete entry" rights does not prevent someone from moving the document. Further, if "delete document pages" rights did allow for moving document pages, the move operation could be disabled by removing the "modify contents" right.
My end user claims that they were able to move pages in version 7. I can't verify that. But I am looking for a workaround (copying the pages won't work in this situation). If there isn't one, my end user would love having this feature added.
Thanks,
Peter McCoy
