Question

Audit Trail Log Folders

asked on August 8, 2014

Hello…

According to the LF Admin Guide:

“Laserfiche Audit Trail stores audit information in binary audit log files on the Laserfiche Server computer.”…….

“By default, a repository's binary audit logs are stored in the AUDIT folder of the repository directory. You can choose to store these files in another location by specifying that location in the Auditing Properties dialog box; see Audit Log Settings for more information.”

Is it possible/advisable to store/access these logs on another VM file share by using a UNC path?....or do the logs have to be on the LF server?

We would like to store the Audit Trail data on the VM (LaserficheWA) that hosts our Audit Trail software installation.

Thank you.

The binary audit logs that the Laserfiche Server writes to can be stored on the network. You would specify the path using UNC. Please ensure that the Laserfiche Server service account has proper rights to that location.

We'll also clarify the wording in our help file, but the Laserfiche Server writes the auditing data to binary log files. What Audit Trail does is that it will connect to the Laserfiche Server, read in the binary data, and load the audit events into the Audit Trail database (depending on how you have the date range configured).

Hi Alex,

If I have the date range set to Age = last 3 days, does the Audit trail retrieve the data & load it in the db in a set interval and keep refreshing it?
