Linking Word Documents - Feature Request?

asked on July 31, 2014

We are brand new LF users and I am training my first two staff as test pilots.  They really like the Linking feature and expect to be using it a lot, however, we are disappointed that we cannot view the links when in a Word document.  We can click on the item in the list of documents before opening and open the metadata pane... and the links tab is there.  But if we're in the Word document and click on the option to View Metadata from the LF/Word Add-In (accessing it at the top of the Word document), the three other tabs show up (Fields, Tags, Versions) but not the Links tab.  ???  Is there a reason for this?  And, if not, could I put in a Feature Request?  Essentially, we would like to be able to link documents, and view linked documents, from inside the original Word document.

Another thought:  what about hovering as a feature request, where if you put your mouse over the document (before opening) and have the names of any linked documents show up in view, as a way of information for the users.

Links tab is available to view within the Word document when you select the "Laserfiche Metadata" button (I am using Laserfiche Office Integration 9.1):

Within the Laserfiche Client, you could also add an additional column called Document Relationships which will tell you whether there are linked documents associated with a document:

Hope that helps!

It looks like the current version of the Office Integration only displays the Links tab if the document is a member of a link group. This is incorrect behavior, as you should be able to access it to view document relationships regardless of link group status. I've filed a bug report to the integration team for the next version.
