Quickfields Odd Classification Scenario

asked on July 29, 2014

Is there a way to split documents in Quickfields with the following logic.

The concept is that a new document is started when a page meets the identification condition is satisfied if and only if the previous page did not meet the identification condition with the exception of the first page. That is hard to visualize so I have tried to write it out.

Meets Condition means a page comes through that meets the identification condition.

Does not meet condition means a page that does not meet the identification condition.

Typical sessions will look something like this:

Meets Condition

Does not meet condition

Does not meet condition

Meets Condition - SPLIT

Does not meet condition

I am looking for a session that will split like this:

Meets Condition

Meets Condition

Meets Condition

Does not meet condition

Does not meet condition

Does not meet condition

Does not meet condition

Does not meet condition

Does not meet condition

Does not meet condition

Meets Condition -- SPLIT

Meets Condition

Does not meet condition

Meets Condition -- SPLIT

Does not meet condition

Hey Chad,

I had a similar situation recently for a demo I was building.  What I ended up doing was going to the document class options and enabled the "Document Merging" setting.

The important thing to note here is that this feature worked well for my situation because the subsequent documents that meet the condition (but don't require a split), were all given the same title.  I had invoices being scanned in and called them "INVOICE - %(Invoice#)".  The invoice # was the same for page 1, 2, and 3 (in the example you provided above) so each of those documents were appended to each other and came into Laserfiche acting as one document, and thus it acted as if there was no split.  The first page that met the ID conditions but had a different invoice # was sent to Laserfiche as a new document.

Let me know if this solution isn't what you're looking for and I'll be happy to review what other options are available!

Hi Rob,

This was my first thought, I was going to have workflow re-combine the documents where there was more than one identification page in a row.

I will take a look at the document merging feature and see how that works.

I had to use a lot of information to ensure a unique file name but it does work in the end! Thanks for the tip!

There's nothing built-in like that, all pages that meet first page identification criteria will create a new document, no information is tracked on whether the previous page was the start of a new doc or not.
