LF Client warning when opening electronic version of PDFs

asked on July 28, 2014

So I did not have a specific error message, so I figured it would be best to ask this on here first.

We have a client who has a user with a machine that when they right click on a PDF and select "Opne -> View Electronic File" or "Open-> Edit Electronic File", the following error comes up:

I figured since the document had ".PDF" at the end, maybe it needs to have it set with ".pdf"

After changing the name, the user gets this warning:

The users settings, are the same as the rest of the users in the department. They are:

While the client does have WebDAV enabled and the workstation does have the repository as a mapped drive, it should not be interfering with actions inside the Client application.

I had some thoughts, but wanted to get some opinions about them. Is it possible that this is happening due to some other type of restriction on the workstation? Maybe having to do with that user not having enough rights? Or even if the software was not installed properly? I find no errors in the Event Viewer whenever this occurs, even when I check both the workstation and the server computer.

I notice your screenshot shows webdav disabled for other efile types but checked for pdfs. The options themselves are grayed out because the laserfiche document viewer is selected by default, but I'd bet they still take effect if you manually choose to open through the associated application (as is the case here). Have you tried changing the pdf option to associated application, unchecking the webdav option, and setting it back?

I have tried that when I was connected to their machine. After setting it back, I actually found that if I enabled the WebDAV option a few minutes later, it would still have that sub-option selected. I will try and find out a status on this from the client. Thanks for the attention Justin.

After adding in the string value registry entry, I tried this change again as the registry change itself had not worked. The client machine is now working just fine, I just needed to enable the setting to disable that grayed out option, then go back into that menu again to change it to what we actually want happening, and then it worked.

Thanks for the help

With the "Open files directly (using WebDAV)" option unchecked, the Client shouldn't be trying to use WebDAV and the user shouldn't be seeing that message. One possible reason why this is happening is perhaps there's a registry value that's telling the Client to use WebDAV.

Check under

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Laserfiche\Client8\Profile\[RepositoryName]Settings

and see if there is a string called OpenEdocsUsingWebDAV with the value set to "Yes." If there is, try setting it to "No" or just delete that string value entirely.

Check for the same thing under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Laserfiche\Client8\Profile\[RepositoryName]Settings

or if using a 64-bit PC

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Laserfiche\Client8\Profile\[RepositoryName]Settings

Thank you, I will have the client check for that ASAP. Would you suggest I open a case for this issue with Technical Support if this does not resolve the issue?

Yes, please do.
