Question

change default search view

asked on July 27, 2014

In 9.1 can you change the default search view as an attribute?

So when the user clicks the search icon they have their own custom search view, without having to open a saved search.

As a note, we are looking into this sort of behavior (allowing users to set their default search view) in Laserfiche 10, but it is too soon to say for certain that it will be included. The fact that this feature would useful is good to have confirmed, so thank you.

Hopefully Brett's answer will be helpful for you in the meantime.

Has this feature been added?

Some users would like to have their Default Search view set to include the Text search. They do not want to have to go to Customize search or to Load a search since this is the type of search they run most frequently.

The Common search is not always useful to these users because they need to utilize the "Within" feature that is in the Text search.

So when they load the search pane or reset the search pane they would like to see Common, Text, and Within Folder.

Please let me know if this can be done via attribute settings.

Thanks.

Hey Matthew,

I'm testing this now, and I found that when I run a search, close the client, then reopen the client and log in as the same user, the search types that I used most recently remain available by default.  I'm also using 9.1.

Are you experiencing something different?

To explicitly answer your question, we do have a few attributes that control what's open by default in the search pane.  Please note that our attributes are typically not shared publicly, as they are subject to change without notice, but if your welcome to give them a shot and check your results. I'll attach a list of the attributes that you might find helpful below:

[Search]DefaultBasicAnnotationCheck BOOL   FALSE   In the "basic" search pane, show the "annotation" option by default.
[Search]DefaultBasicFieldCheck BOOL   TRUE   In the "basic" search pane, show the "field" option by default.
[Search]DefaultBasicNameCheck BOOL   FALSE   In the "basic" search pane, show the "name" option by default.
[Search]DefaultBasicTextCheck BOOL   TRUE   In the "basic" search pane, show the "text" option by default.
[Search]RememberBasicSearchCheckboxes BOOL   Needs to be added manually   In the "basic" search pane, when set to be "No", the user's basic search options during the last session will not be applied after re-login.
[Search]LastLoadedSearch

String                           Name of last Saved Search loaded by the "Choose Saved Search" dialog; will start selected next time.

Hi Rob,

I tried [Search]DefaultBasicFieldCheck set to true but it did not open the search with field option as deafult. Am I missing something?
