Question

Large Data Migrations

asked on July 24, 2014

I've got a migration coming up from a 3rd party system called Alfresco of around 4 million images.

Has anyone done a large migration on this scale before? Anything worth noting or any surprises I need to know about?

Not just from Alfresco but from any system with this many documents?

Curious......Cheers! laugh

Thanks Greg,

This is very helpful and useful information. I did however get a response from Laserfiche presales with a little bit more specific information (unfortunately too specific to share here!).

Cheers!

We performed a migration of about 3.5 million documents from a legacy system (FileNet CS) to Laserfiche last year.

We worked with a company called UFCInc (www.ufcinc.com).

Using a tool called Quillix(sp?), they helped us export all the documents, including all metadata and annotations to a staging server.  We then loaded the documents into Laserfiche using bulk load tools provided by our Laserfiche Partner (MVi).

UFC did mention they have tools that can perform "direct migrations", depending on the source and destination platforms, eliminating the need for a staging environment that we used.

We performed significant QA of the documents after migration as well as document count audits to make sure the migration was accurate.

Good luck!
