Question

Question

Is there a way to set the order of the columns when you run a search? .

asked on July 23, 2014 Show version history

Currently the user has version 8.1.2.681 of the Laserfiche Client.

First, I am wondering if there is a way to set the order of the columns when you run a search?

Second, It seems as though I am able to change the order of some columns, but not all. I am able to move the "Path" column, but am not able to save the change when I move one of their "Fields" columns.

Yes, I will need to open a ticket.

I read your comment, Brianna.

They set the columns under options and ordered them as they liked when they search. They are not being automatically added. I did this before I even opened the up this forum.

There are two ways to add/remove columns from your search result:

  1. When you do a search, the search results will show. Right click on the column names and add/remove desired column. You should be able to drag the columns to where you want it to go.
  2. Go to Tools>Options and then select Search>Columns. You can then pick and choose which columns you want to show in the search result but cannot alter the order from here.

I couldn't replicate your issue with Laserfiche Client 8.1.2.735. Once I changed the column order, it remained the same even if I logged off. Column views are based on user attributes, so will change from user to user unless you apply the attributes to the Everyone group.

If you still can't get it to work, I suggest applying the latest Laserfiche Client 8.1.2 hotfix and see if that fixes things.

Hope this helps!

To address your second question, note that if you are doing a template search, all fields present in that template will be automatically added to your search. The ordering of these columns will be preserved only as long as you are searching on the same template.

If you then run a search on a different template, or perform a different kind of search, these columns will be removed, as will any changes to their order. Logging out will also wipe changes you have made to these automatically added columns.

If you are adding the field columns manually, then all changes to your field columns should be saved.

I have a user where they are using the same template and setting the columns. However, when they close out and open LF again, they reset back to the default columns.

As I mentioned above, if the columns are being automatically added, such as when the user performs a template search, changes to those automatically added columns will not be preserved when you log out (closing Laserfiche logs you out).

If you have manually added columns in the Options dialog (under Search > Columns) or by right-clicking and selecting the column from the list, changes to those columns should remain after log out and back in.

Note that the columns for viewing folders are stored separately from columns for searches, and if you log out and back in, the list of entries is always going to be from the folder you are viewing, not a search.

Using version 8.1.2.735, this is the behavior I was seeing. If you are experiencing something different, you may wish to open a support case.
