Feature Request: Forms Development User does not require a license

asked on July 22, 2014

It would be nice to not need a licensed user to do forms development. Even if their were only allowed to be 1 such user, it would be much easier for clients that have only enough licenses for each of their users and none to spare.

In Forms, it only requires named user license for the user that will login Forms site. So on configuration site, when you configure the user name for the repository, it will require it to be a named user since it is the first system admin added to the Forms site by default.

But for Save to Laserfiche configured from configuration site and Save to Repository Service task, it doesn't require a named user license, it even doesn't require the user to have any privilege in the repository, you just need to make sure the user have enough entry access right to be able to add documents in the repository.

Swapping licenses around is a hassle, an inconvenience to our clientele, and overall, not a great practice at all.

I understand not being able to save to repository without a license, at least in the first version of that feature. Let's hope they change that as well in the future versions. It's a bit odd having to remember that there are different rules at hand for Forms unlike other products and not consistent like most other aspects of Laserfiche products.

Good shout Kenneth,

I too have had this problem and it is rather annoying having to keep swapping licenses around all the time just to change some forms. Not even Admin can log in unless it's a named user! angry

I third that request. I think it's fair that we can ask to have a dedicated Forms Development user, the same way we can have a dedicated Workflow user that does not require a license. However, not just for development of forms processes, but also for the Save to Repository connection profiles.

We just ran into this issue as well.  You should at least get a free named license with forms that can be used for this purpose.

Suddenly I am able to save to the repository without a named license. Is anyone else noticing this?
