Error 1042 when applying security tag to trustee

asked on July 18, 2014

Trustee is a member of a group that provides feature rights to members (scan, import, search, print, export, edit text, move entry, process, extended properties, delete, migrate documents). A folder in our repository has inherited access rights (browse, read) and this group is included on the list of Trustees with those access rights ("Show inherited rights"). Access to this folder is further controlled by a security tag - without the tag, users don't have access to the contents of the folder.

It's normally a quick and easy task to simply apply the tag from within the Properties dialog box for a user, but this time I'm getting the "The specified object is already a member of this collection" error. When I view the list of trustees assigned to the tag, this user is not on the list.

It sounds like the error is telling me that the user already has access to the folder and its contents, but he doesn't.

We're using LF Rio, version 9.0.3.798.

Hi Donna,

Could it be that the tag is already assigned to a group which the user is a member of?

Cheers!

Hi, Chris:

We apply tags individually to trustees upon request and approval so they aren't part of a group's access/use permissions (although I checked anyway, just to be sure! :-D)

Thanks for the suggestion!

Just to be sure Donna,

When you are in the admin console, double click on the user and in the tags tab. When you add the tag there and press ok you get the error then?

Yes, that's correct, Chris.

Thanks Donna,

OK.I'm only able to reproduce what you are seeing if I have a duplicate user. Even if the tag is set on the group it still allows me to set it on the user level with no error. If you are using domain accounts perhaps there is a duplicate user somewhere or it's linked in a LF user in the domain account element. Seems a little strange this error. No record of it anywhere previously.

Of course the response from Laserfiche will be to upgrade to 9.1.1 if that's possible. wink

Failing that would it be possible to delete the problem user and re-create? See if the behavior changes?

Hope this helps Donna!

I know we'll be upgrading at some point so there's always that!

We have some...weirdness going on with respect to our IT networks and whatnot that, in general, results in interesting user account quirks from the admin side related to domain accounts. I didn't have to delete/re-create the whole account,  but I was able to futz with the way the domain account information was being interpreted by our system(s) and get the tag to work. Fingers crossed the rest of his access remains problem-free!

Thanks very much, Chris, for your responses and testing!
