Question

Question

rollover volume to different drive

asked on July 9, 2014

I do understand that we can specify a size/time for a volume to roll-over, where it creates a roll-over volume once it reaches that size/time inside the same parent folder (e.g. A volume called Default is set to roll-over at 2GB, so once it reached 2GB (for DEFAULT000001) it roll-overs automatically to DEFAULT000002 and so on.

But can we roll over to a different drive automatically? (E.g DEFAULT volume is at D drive and we want to automatically roll-over to a new volume at F Drive)

When initially creating a rollover volume, you are first setting up the properties of the logical volume, i.e. name, path, rollover conditions (size limit or time limit). When a new physical volume is created as part of the rollover, the path that's used will be based off of the path set in the logical volume. So if you now want the new physical rollover volumes to be created in a new location automatically, you would just need to change the volume path of the original logical volume. Note that this won't affect any physical rollover volumes that you already have.

Thanks Alexander. That's all I needed.

Hi, I need to do the same thing. I tried changing the path of the logical volume but got the error 'volume in use'. As I'm hoping the change will only affect the next rollover volume, not the current volume version (with the old fixed path), I was hoping this could be done 'on the fly' without stopping the service / disabling the volume. Is there a way of doing it without locking people out?

Thanks,

John
