Question

Can you drag a Document from a repository as a TIFF into Forms as an attachment?

asked on July 8, 2014

I want to be able to upload documents in Forms all as TIFF documents so a Workflow can combine all into one document at the end. Since there is no workflow process to convert PDFs to TIFF documents, I need to have then loaded as TIFFs in the Form attachment of documents process.  The documents are scanned into Laserfiche as TIFFs and would like to drag and drop them into the form after selecting attachment.  Is this possible - if not why not?

Where do PDFs come into play in your scenario?

Workflow has an activity that can move image pages between documents (Move Pages). If you already have the documents as images in Laserfiche, why do you need to drag them out to attach to a form just so you can have them re-imported into Laserfiche?

The form as it is routing needs to have the attachments for review by the approvers.  In addition, the are 3 steps where attachments may, and probably will be made.  These documents will need to be either scanned into a system, or can be moved into Laserfiche via Snapshot.  If we could link to the documents that could suffice, however, the documents as they exist currently in Laserfiche are not accessible to all, although a folder could be designated for them to drop them into.  If there was a Workflow process that would convert PDFs into Tiffs so we could combine all pieces into one document for filing, that would suffice.

I have a use case where a third-party scanning company is scanning documents to a file share, then Import Agent brings them into the repository. At this point, a user goes through the documents and determines whether the document needs to be attached to the form or not (most will not need to be attached to the form). If it does, it would be nice to be able to drag and drop to the form (FYI, the Forms interface looks like it will accept the dragged file, but when you drop it, nothing actually happens) because the attachment may not have any identifying information on it that Workflow can use to link the submitted form to the document in the repository. So rather than having the user apply metadata to the document or modify the document name so that Workflow can find it, it would be easiest in this case to have the user drag and drop from the repository to the form as a method of routing it. It's not so much about the importing as it is about the routing and linking to the submitted form. Attachments may also come from their local computer as well so it's not consistently coming from the third-party scanning company.

I'll need to think of other ways to achieve what I want, but figured I would post my initial idea which involved dragging and dropping to the form.
