Question

What determines default Laserfiche view (Column Profile)?

asked on July 2, 2014

Hello!

I just had a quick question about the Laserfiche client. Similar to Windows Explorer, Laserfiche has the option to change the view in regards to how much metadata the user wants displayed on their screen. These "views" are broken down into Column Profiles. Different LF folders can have different profiles. My question is, what determines the default or go-to profile? I have a group of users that want their clients to look identical, which means they'll need the same default Column Profile.

Thanks!

Hey Cole,

When Laserfiche is first installed, all the columns for each client will be identical: pages, creation date, last modified date, volume, etc.  If a user decides to modify these columns in any way, Laserfiche will save a Trustee Attribute to that user's account.  Essentially, trustee attributes save the user's preferences regarding the client.  Trustee attributes can be found in the user's account properties in the Administration Console, and they can also be exported and imported from this page as well.  In other words, you can set up the columns anyway you please, check the user's attributes in the Administration Console for whatever user you were logged in with to change the columns, export the appropriate  user attributes, then import them for a specific set of users/the everyone group.

Note: Trustee attributes should be set either on individual Laserfiche users, on Windows Accounts or LDAP Accounts users, or on the Everyone group. The ability to set attributes on GROUPS is included for use with integrations and customizations.

A user's attributes will take precedence over attributes for the Everyone group, and the Everyone group's attributes will take precedence over the default attributes.

Lastly, I wanted to point out the option that's available from the client in the Tools>Options>Browser>General menu called "Changes to column display should be:".  You can change the option here to suit your needs, but essentially this option gives you the ability to keep a consistent column profile for all folders in the repository instead of setting the column profile for every individual folder.

Let me know if you'd like any additional clarification by leaving a reply and I'll be happy to offer some more information!

Thanks Rob!

I'd noted that last menu option but wasn't sure if any of the users needed to keep custom views for any specific folders so I was a bit hesitant to use it. I took one of the users and exported their column display attributes, so now I just need to import those settings for another user and see how things turn out. If that works out, that'll save me a lot of time and effort.
