Question

Deleting persisted workflow instances

asked on July 1, 2014

Hello.  I searched for an answer to this issue, but I only got redirects to missing help pages so I thought I would ask in the Answers forum.

I have quite a few older persisted instances for almost every workflow that I cannot delete (several hundred).  I suspect the entries are no longer available, or part of earlier workflow versions.  When I select all in a certain workflow and click delete all, I receive a "requested object could not be found."  The detailed message is:

The requested object was not found.
---Stack Trace---

Client trace
   at Laserfiche.Workflow.Objects.Diagnostics.PersistedInstance.GetWorkflowInstance()
   at Laserfiche.Workflow.Console.Nodes.Diagnostics.PersistedInstancesServerNode.OnDeleteAllCommandExecuted(ListViewFacade listView, ActionContext status)

In addition, selecting a single instance and clicking delete does not delete the instance or even give me an error message.   I would like to purge/clear these out to have a clean slate and to be able to delete some of the workflows I no longer need.

Is there a workaround or procedure that will let me free these instances up and delete them?  Maybe a queue they are residing in SQL?  Since these have been there, LF server and WF server/Subscriber have been restarted on several occasions and I'm pretty sure SQL server restarted also.  This issue must have happened occurred for other Laserfiche users as well.

FYI:  Rio 9.1.1.  All LF software updated as of 7/1/14.  Admin user with full LF/DB rights.

Thank you in advance.

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

In the designer you can perform searches to show which workflows are running or completed. I'm not sure where you are seeing the option for 'delete' but I would do a search in the designer to see what workflows are actually running and terminate any earlier workflows that are stuck in a never-ending loop.

Hope this helps!

Actually, the persisted instances node is in Workflow Admin Console where they are stuck and allows you to (normally) delete those instances.  In my case it doesn't let me delete them.    I tried searching for them in Designer, but it doesn't list these orphaned instances to terminate.

Here's the screen grab:

Dear All,

I have the same issue,

Selecting a Single/Multiple instances and clicking delete does not delete the instance or even give me an error message. These running instances are of old versions. Also, these instances are not available in the Admin Constole->Persisted Instance list.

Can anyone help me to terminate these workflows I suspect these workflows are utilizing my resources a lot.

Thanks in advance.

Raees -

I would open a support case with your LF contact.  I believe we got rid of these old instances through SQL.  They were still stuck in the messaging queue, so LF continued to think they were active.  Sorry I couldn't help more, but it has been awhile.

Good luck.
